Sam Taylor is a transactional attorney with the expertise to help companies of all stages make and implement key business and product development decisions, with core training in intellectual property and significant experience in data privacy, regulatory compliance, and corporate law. Sam has represented clients throughout the country in software and hardware technology, entertainment, biotech, and government sectors, working on intellectual property licensing and strategy, trademark and copyright applications and enforcement, commercial contracts, data privacy matters, regulatory research, entity formation, early and late-stage investments, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining SPZ, Sam spent five years as the assistant director of the Startup Law Clinic at Boston University School of Law. In this role, Sam advised MIT startups across a wide range of industries while simultaneously teaching young lawyers how to bring value to their clients. The Startup Law Clinic is unique in the country for the high volume of work it sees from startups and nonprofits coming out of MIT and BU. Sam most enjoyed gaining an intimate understanding of his clients’ goals and needs, and working with them to find practical solutions to the risks they must encounter in order to become successful businesses. As a supervisor, Sam placed a premium on intense one-on-one training and mentorship for each of his students. Before coming to the Startup Law Clinic, Sam spent five years as a transactional intellectual property attorney in Boston, first at WGBH (then at Holland & Knight LLP) and Gunderson Dettmer LLP.
For several years, Sam has also volunteered as a mentor for high school students through BUILD, a nationwide program through which students are empowered to build small businesses and develop a vital sense of self-agency over their education and careers.
Sam is admitted to practice law in Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York, and has been certified as an information privacy professional by the IAPP (CIPP-US).
